Troubleshooting
Why did my count reset to zero on its own?
Almost every unexpected reset comes down to browser storage being cleared rather than a fault in the counter. Private or incognito windows discard everything when the window closes. Some browsers, particularly Safari on iPhone, clear website data for sites you have not visited recently. A 'clear browsing data' sweep, a cleaner app, or a browser reinstall will do the same. Because your counts live in your browser and never reach our servers, we have no copy to restore, so write down anything important before you close up for the day.
My taps are not registering. What should I check?
First check that the screen has not locked; a dark screen swallows taps, so turn off auto-lock during long counting sessions. If you have set a maximum limit, the counter deliberately stops at it, which looks like a dead screen until you notice the number. Also make sure you are tapping the large number area rather than the header or footer. On a desktop, click once inside the page before using the keyboard so it has focus.
Why do my counts not appear on my other device?
Counts are saved by the specific browser on the specific device that made them, with nothing passing through an account or a server. A count made in Chrome on your phone will therefore not appear in Safari on the same phone, let alone on your laptop. To carry a total across, tap the number on the second device and type the value in manually, or export a CSV from the first device.
The install option does not appear in my browser. Why?
Installing requires a browser that supports installable web apps. On iPhone that means Safari specifically, using Share then Add to Home Screen; Chrome on iOS cannot do it. On Android use Chrome or Edge and look under the three-dot menu. Some desktop browsers only offer it after you have visited the site more than once, and Firefox on desktop does not support installation at all. Our install guide walks through each one.
Can I get a count back after tapping reset?
No. Reset asks for confirmation precisely because the previous value is not recoverable afterwards; there is no history to roll back to and no server-side copy. If you regularly need the old figure, export to CSV before resetting, or add a second counter for the new session and leave the old one intact.
Does the counter keep working if I lose signal?
Yes. Once the page has loaded once, counting runs entirely in your browser, so a lost connection changes nothing. That makes it well suited to basement stock takes, aircraft, and rural sites. Installing it to your home screen makes this more reliable, because the app shell is then stored on the device rather than fetched.
Is there a limit to how high I can count?
Not for any practical purpose. You can count into the millions without trouble; the display shrinks the digits as needed so the number is never cut off. If you have set a maximum limit in settings, that limit stops the counter, and clearing the limit lets it continue.
